Site Chosen as Exemplary in Facilitating the Growth of Volunteerism
Boston, MA (April, 1997) – The TECH CORPS Web site has been chosen by Bell Atlantic/NYNEX to be featured at the Presidents’ historic Summit for America’s Future in Philadelphia, April 27-29. Selection was based on the organization’s use of information technologies to further the Summit’s goals of volunteerism in support of safe, healthy, and productive lives for all children.
“Your program is one of 12 exhibitions chosen to demonstrate the potential of new communications technologies to multiply the power of America’s voluntary organizations for the 3,400 Summit delegates,” says Suzanne DuBose, Executive Director of the NYNEX Foundation.
The Presidents’ Summit for America’s Future is the kickoff for America’s Promise, a multi-year national effort aimed at providing the 15 million at-risk young people in America with the resources they need to succeed. Over 1,700 community and state delegates representing more than 140 rural and urban communities, all 50 states, and territories will join hundreds of corporations in the three day meeting. President Clinton and former President Bush, the honorary co-chairs, will be joined by President Ford, First Lady Nancy Reagan, and General Colin Powell at this historic call to commitment.
TECH CORPS is a national non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing K-12 teaching and learning through the effective use of volunteers to integrate technology into the educational environment. TECH CORPS volunteers offer technical expertise in hardware/software/wiring, mentor students and teachers, work side-by-side with teachers in the classroom, deliver teacher training, and offer advice on technology and network planning.
