TECH CORPS and Peregrine Publishers Announce Partnership
June 2, 1997 — TECH CORPS (Sudbury, MA) and Peregrine Publishers, Inc. (Wakefield, MA) announced a partnership to offer Web-based educational services to selected schools participating in the TECH CORPS initiative to integrate new technologies into the educational system. Selected schools will be able to take advantage of the resources on The Biology Place™ and The Chemistry Place™.
The Biology Place and The Chemistry Place are subscription Web resources for secondary and college educators and students. The teaching and learning resources available at the site are developed by a team of educators who share an interest in the Web as a unique environment for investigative learning and a significant value to education. As an educational Web site, The Biology Place and The Chemistry Place combine the discipline of traditional textbook publishing, which involves careful research by leading educators and peer review to ensure educational merit and accuracy, with the immediacy and interactivity of the Internet. The Biology Place and The Chemistry Place are distinguished from other sites on the Web that provide scientific information in that the information is presented in an educational context appropriate for students learning introductory principles.
According to Anne Harvey, Vice President of Business Development for Peregrine, “We believe that teachers in the TECH CORPS program are in an excellent position to take immediate advantage of the Internet. Using the resources at The Biology Place and The Chemistry Place, they can readily provide students with experience on the Internet that supports their teaching goals, not only to integrate technology, but also to teach science principles. We are pleased to count TECH CORPS participants among the hundreds of educator and thousands of student members of The Biology Place and The Chemistry Place.”
“One of the primary goals of TECH CORPS is to provide schools with the resources needed to integrate technology into the curriculum,” said Karen Smith, Executive Director of TECH CORPS. “In establishing this partnership with Peregrine Publishers, TECH CORPS is able to offer selected science teachers and students across the country a service which uses the latest technology to support the study of biology and chemistry.”
