RELEASES SPANISH VERSION OF ACCLAIMED TUTORIAL WEBTEACHER

Washington, DC (June 26, 2000) – In an effort to provide quality resources to more American classrooms, TECH CORPS®, in partnership with the National Cable Television Association, has released a Spanish version of their highly acclaimed webTeacher®. webTeacher is a free interactive, self-guided tutorial and instructs teachers on the use of the Internet. Since first published in English three years ago webTeacher has won numerous awards including the “Blue Web’n” Award; Too Cool School House Educational Site of the Week; and the Excellence in Education Award. The widely recognized English version remains at www.webteacher.org and the Spanish translation at www.webteacher.org/Espanol.

webTeacher’s Spanish translation – made possible by the Puerto Rican Government – reflects TECH CORPS’ desire to provide all teachers with the tools necessary to enhance technology in education. TECH CORPS’ Executive Director, Karen Smith states, “The decision to offer webTeacher in Spanish truly speaks to the tutorial’s broad scope and popularity as a training tool. We’re delivering it by popular demand – just as TECH CORPS and the cable industry first united to provide webTeacher in response to teachers’ requests for Internet instruction.”

“Our longstanding partnership with TECH CORPS to provide this valuable resource for teachers further demonstrates the cable industry’s ongoing commitment to education” says NCTA President and CEO. “webTeacher’s translation comes at an opportune time – as private industry and government work to assure there is no Digital Divide.”

TECH CORPS® is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving K-12 education through the effective use of technology. NCTA is the principal trade association representing the cable television industry in the United States.
