Las Vegas, NV (November 15, 1999)__TECH CORPS, a national volunteer organization helping schools integrate technology in K-12 classrooms, participated as a sponsor in the first-ever National Techies Day. National Techies Day was organized to celebrate the accomplishments of IT professionals, and encourage them to share their career highlights with students in local schools.

Tech professionals across the country registered with TECH CORPS, an organization building a national network of technology volunteers to work in K-12 schools. On October 5th, registered Techies visited schools to either help with technology projects or speak with students about careers in the technology industry.

“We applaud Techies Day organizers for recognizing technology professionals who share their talents with schools. We join them in challenging “Techies” to become student mentors,” said Karen Smith, executive director of TECH CORPS.

TECH CORPS offers technology professionals an opportunity to volunteer either in person or online with schools across the country every day, all year. Technology resources are in short supply in K-12 schools, and IT volunteers can help fill that void. TECH CORPS welcomed the opportunity to help National Techies Day organizers harness people-power to support our nation’s schools.
